Pigging Formulas

Total Amount of Buildup (Bottom Layer) in Pipeline

Internal Pipe Diameter (i.d.): inches
Length of Pipe in Feet: feet
Buildup Thickness: inches

Note : This formula is used for determining the total amount of bottom-layer buildup within a given pipe diameter and length. The calculated response shows amount of buildup in total cubic feet, amount in total linear feet (if buildup completely filled pipe), which illustrates what could happen if a pig was used to try to remove all buildup in single run, and number of feet pigged to fill one linear foot in front of pig. Concentric buildup input will NOT produce a correct calculation response. This can be used in verifying proper pig selection and pigging procedure required to clean the line.
